TAVISTOCK - Tavistock Jr. ‘C’ Braves will be wearing their new uniforms this weekend when they entertain the Detroit Fighting Irish of the Midwest Junior Hockey League in Michigan.
The two teams play Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and again Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Tavistock arena.
Braves will have a full blue-line bar and restaurant open for both games. The teams will meet after the game and be fed a meal.
Braves’ players will be presenting the Irish players with commemorative T-shirts (supplied by Provision Clothing) and Canadian flags to celebrate the two-game series before Friday’s first game at centre ice.
“The Detroit team is picked and our team is close,” said Jamie Petrie, Tavistock’s head coach and GM. “I think playing these games is a breath of fresh air. It’s something different.
“Our kids are pretty excited about it.”
--Braves opened their pre-season schedule on Saturday with a 4-2 home-ice win over Mitchell Hawks.
--After playing Detroit this weekend, Tavistock’s final three exhibition games are against Kincardine (Aug. 26), Aylmer (Sept. 2) and Mitchell (Sept. 3). The Mitchell game is being held in St. Marys.
