U-14 Strikers post two home-field wins

Stratford Gazette

Stratford’s ‘Totally Spoked’ GU-14 Strikers hosted two SWRSA league games last week.

Strikers’ first match was with Kitchener ‘A’ last Tuesday evening. Kitchener took an early one goal lead, after a clearing attempt went in favour of the visiting team.

Stratford rallied back quickly to tie the score when Payton Dias connected off a well-delivered free kick from Olivia Griffin.

Keara Flood fed a great pass to Dias, who buried her second of the game to give Stratford a 2-1 edge at the half-time break.

Early into the second half, Dias drove home her third of the game to complete the hat trick.

Elizabeth Drake put on an amazing defensive performance, beating Kitchener to virtually every ball. Several more scoring opportunities were created by Strikers throughout the half, however, they couldn’t add to their total.

Strikers earned a 3-1 win, and the three points.

The second match was played on Thursday night against Cambridge, and was a well-played, high-scoring game for the U-14 Strikers.

Stratford moved the ball well the entire game and created multiple scoring chances, resulting in seven goals scored.

Goal scorers were Jessica Blowes, Laurissa Wiper, Payton Dias, Olivia Griffin, Keara Flood, and a pair from Kathryn Simmons.

Aly Stone controlled the back field in an excellent defensive performance.

Keeper Emily Rich made some great saves for the shutout.

Strikers won the match 7-0, and earned another three points in the SWRSL standings.
