Overholt wins bronze in hurdles

St. Marys Journal Argus

TORONTO – Brooke Overholt, of Stratford St. Michael Warriors, capped off an outstanding track and field season with a bronze medal here at the OFSAA championships at the University of Toronto.

On Saturday, the 15-year-old Overholt ran the Midget girls’ 80-metre hurdles in 46.80 seconds, a personal best. Her time in the OFSAA Regionals at Western in London one week earlier was 47.51 seconds.

Warriors’ teammate Erin Kuepfer was fifth in the Junior girls’ 80-metre hurdles in a personal best time of 12.19 seconds. (It took an OFSAA record to beat her).

Kuepfer was also eighth in the Junior girls’ triple jump.

Also bringing home a medal from the All-Ontario meet was Cody Pauli, of Mitchell District high school.

Pauli, a good all-round athlete, took silver in the Senior boys’ 400-metre hurdles Saturday. His time was a sizzling 53.86 seconds.

Two St. Marys DCVI athletes also competed at OFSAA, but neither medalled.

Last Thursday, Natalie Topp was 10th in the Senior girls’ 400-metre dash in a time of 56.83 seconds.

Topp, 16, was also 12th in the Senior girls’ 200-metre dash in a time of 25.34 seconds.

Abbey Thorup, 14, was 12th in the Midget girls’ 400-metre dash in a time of 1:01.10.
