Penalty trouble costs semi-final appearance

ST. THOMAS - All Equip Major Peewee MD Warriors played in the St. Thomas A-E tournament on the Nov. 21-23 weekend.

Warriors played Erie North Shore Storm in the first game and fell behind early in the game.

In the second period, Warriors ran in penalty trouble as they picked up five infractions in a span of eight minutes.

Erie scored on the powerplay to take a 2-0 lead. Warriors scored in the third on a unassisted goal by Scotty Thornton.

Cieran Diebolt made several key saves to keep Stratford close. Warriors were unable to tie the score, ending with their first loss, 2-1.

In their second game, the All Equip Peewees played the home-town St Thomas Stars.

Warriors defeated the Stars 6-1. Jacob Cressman and Connor Hill fired two goals apiece for Stratford, while the singles went Owen Chartrand and Alex Dingwell.

Earning assists were Thornton and Tyler Gould with two apiece, and Tyler Guy and Tyler Gibb with single helpers.

Warriors then faced off against the undefeated Orangeville Flyers.

Flyers got on the board in the first period with two goals.

Warriors battled hard throughout the game. Ezra Lee made several big saves to keep the game close.

Stratford held the Flyers off the scoreboard in the second and third. Warriors were unable to beat the Flyers’ goalie, losing 2-0 and being eliminated from the tournament.
