Scheele win Junior race at Fanshawe

LONDON – St. Marys DCVI Salukis posted great results in cross-country running here last Thursday at the Fanshawe Park Invitational.

Leading the way was Marcel Scheele, who had a winning time of 17 minutes and 23 seconds in the 6.25 kilometre race. He finished seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher from Sandwich.

Levi Rice was 43rd and Kevin Oliver was 51st in a field of 135.

The DCVI Junior boys were fifth overall as a team.

In the Senior boys race, Salukis’ Travis Mann ran to a strong 12th-place finish in a race that featured over 200 runners.

Teammate Taylor Cornwall was 17th, Andy O’Connell 31st and Daniel Treadway 56th.

The DCVI Seniors finished fourth overall as a team.

In the Senior girls race, Natalie Topp finished 24th overall, while teammate Madeline Aarts was 26th.

A total of 186 runners started that race.

There were more good results in the Junior girls race for the Salukis.

Elizabeth Aarts was 12th overall in a field of 159 runners. Sophia Slater was 21st and Ali Nagle 58th. As a team, DCVI finished sixth.

A total of 159 Junior runners left the starting line.
