St. Marys Journal Argus

STRATFORD – Rick Fifield, of St. Marys, fired a two-under-par 69 here last Wednesday at the Stratford Golf and Country Club.

A total of 120 golfers took part in the club’s annual Senior Men’s Invitational. The golfers had to battle the rain and wet conditions later in the day.

Finishing three shots behind Fifield were two London golfers, Gerard McAnulty and Vaughn Peckham. They both finished with one-over 72s.

Three Stratford golfers, Bob Taylor, Willy Keller and Bill Preston, all carded 76s.

Eric Henkemans also shot 76, while fellow St. Marys G&CC member Jim Craigmile posted a 78.

FIFIELD, CRAIGMILE TIE FOR 11TH

ST. THOMAS – The St. Marys entry of Rick Fifield and Jim Craigmile finished tied for 11th in the Ontario Senior Men’s Better Ball championship tournament here last Thursday at St. Thomas Golf and Country Club.

Fifield and Craigmile were one of six teams to combine for a one-under-par score of 71.

There were 55 teams of Senior men, 55-years-old and over, who took to the course in damp, fall-like conditions.

Collingwood’s Michael Jackson and Welland’s Sandy Billyard posted the low round of the day, a seven-under-par 65.

The difference for the duo came on the ninth hole when Billyard, from Hunters Pointe Golf Course, canned a hole-in-one on the par three.

The Senior Men’s Better Ball Championship was first contested in 1982.
