U-14 Strikers remain undefeated

Stratford Gazette

The Orr Insurance GU-14 Strikers improved their record to 11 wins and one tie with a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Rockwood F.C. in a SWRSL match at the Packham soccer complex recently.

The first-place Stratford squad remains the only unbeaten team in the SWRSL division.

The U-14 Strikers came out flat and the Rockwood team took advantage with a goal at the 10-minute mark.

Strikers seemed to find their legs and scored two goals, one by Tatum James and the other by Meredith MacMillan. The Rockwood team fought back and tied the score, at 2-2, before the half-time break.

Strikers took the lead early in the second half with Ashley Vito scoring and shortly after James booted her second goal of the match to complete the scoring.

The Strikers’ midfield of Makaila Willmore, Kaylee Orr, Sarah Strome, Sierra Sauve, Tessa Eliasziw, Ashley Hines, Julia Cressman, Hannah Kooy and Payton Dias had a strong game and had the advantage on ball control with some pretty passes.

Once Stratford had the lead, the defensive unit of Sarah Nemeth, Olivia Giovinuzzo and Sophia Ayenew shut the door on the Rockwood side. Goalie Allyson Denstedt continued her stellar play and made some key saves to keep her team in front.

The undefeated Strikers return to action this Thursday with a home game against Puslinch.
