Urquhart picked up by Owen Sound for Canadians

St. Marys Journal Argus

Fraser Urquhart, of St. Marys, was recently the first overall pick by Owen Sound to play in the Canadian Junior Men’s Fastball championships in Irma, Alberta, Aug. 11-17.

Urquhart is a member of the St. Marys Steelworkers and is in his final year of Junior eligibility. Urquhart predominantly catches and also plays first base.

Three Ontario teams will be going to Irma to compete--Napanee, Stratford and Owen Sound (their order of finish at the recent provincial Eliminations in Napanee).

Urquhart was scouted at the provincial eliminations in Napanee and at the International Softball Congress world qualifier the weekend before by multiple teams.

This year, teams are allowed to take three extra players to the Canadians. With Owen Sound’s roster well set , Urquhart may end up being their only pick.

The draft was to be completed by the middle of the week.
