Swanson’s U-15 Strikers earn 2-0 road victory

Stratford Gazette

The Swanson’s Jewellers girls U-15 Strikers travelled to Puslinch to face the first-place Predators in Southwest Region Soccer action on Wednesday.

After a big win against Kitchener, Strikers were eager to put on a strong performance, and, as the starting whistle sounded, Stratford immediately took control of the game.

With most of the possession during the first frame, Strikers grabbed an early lead, scoring on goals by Erin Kuepfer from a great pass from Zuza Bukala, and Elizabeth Aarts from a perfectly-placed cross from defender Natalie Dale.

As the first half came to a close, Stratford led 2-0.

Strikers continued to dominate into the second half, but, despite a number of chances from forwards Kuepfer and Bukala, as well as midfielders Leah Matthews, Josie Lamondin and Julia Sim, the score remained 2-0.

Late in the game, Puslinch started to show signs of life, making a brief push to score, but goalkeeper Julia Bukala, along with defenders Taylor Hotson, Tessa Deighton, Megan Moorehead, Julia Blowes and Natalie Dale closed the door, allowing only two shots, and no goals to hold the lead to win by a score of 2-0.

The shutout is Bukala’s second of the season.

Swanson’s U-15 girls are on the field again this Saturday in the annual Stratford Classic tournament, their first L5/4 competitive tournament since moving up from the L6 Recreational division this season.
