St. Marys Journal Argus

STRATFORD – It was a great start for the DCVI Senior girls soccer team here last Thursday at Stratford Central.

Nick Seebach’s Salukis posted two wins to kick off their Huron-Perth regular schedule and didn’t surrender a goal in either game.

In their opening game, a second-half goal—off a free kick—by midfielder Taegan Haynes carried the Senior girls to a 1-0 victory over Listowel Lightning.

Kristen Schmidt recorded the shutout for St. Marys.

In their second game of the day, Emily Woodhouse scored twice and Haynes added the single as the Sr. Salukis blanked the host Rams 3-0.

Schmidt collected her second shutout of the day.

The DCVI Senior girls have another doubleheader tomorrow (Apr. 29) at the collegiate, playing Clinton St. Anne’s and Stratford St. Mikes. St. Mikes have also started their schedule with two wins and no goals allowed.

Next week, Salukis are back in league action Tuesday, May 6, playing Mitchell and Stratford Northwestern at Exeter South Huron.

Sr. boys start with win, tie

The DCVI Senior boys also started their H-P League schedule last Thursday at Central, gaining four points on a tie and a win.

The tie came against Listowel as the team battled to a 1-1 draw. Salukis completed their day with a 3-0 victory over the host Rams.

Lucas Jeffrey scored for St. Marys against Listowel.

In the victory over Central, Giacomo Passarelli, Nathan Froese and Jake Dickey were the marksmen for DCVI. Alan Thomas earned the shutout.

The Sr. boys also host St. Anne’s and St. Mikes on Tuesday of this week at DCVI. Next Tuesday, May 6, Salukis play Mitchell and Northwestern at Exeter.

Juniors start Wednesday

The two DCVI Junior soccer teams kick off their H-P schedules Wednesday (Apr. 30) at home against rival St. Mikes.

The Jr. girls play the Warriors at 11:30 a.m. and the Jr. boys play their St. Mikes counterparts at 12:50 p.m.

Note: Soccer teams get three points for a win, one point for a tie, and no points for a loss.
