In Huron-Perth League basketball action on Monday, Feb. 3 at Mitchell D.H.S., the DCVI Junior boys defeated Mitchell Blue Devils 55-17.
Powering the Salukis’ attack were Hayden Moore with 22 points and Sam Thorup with 12. Corey Fulop and Matt Wrigley added five points apiece.
In their second game, the Jr. Salukis got a balanced scoring attack against South Huron Panthers in a 46-13 victory.
Moore and Ben Berry each netted eight points for St. Marys, while Fulop and Jordan Keeler contributed six points each.
With the two wins, St. Marys (6-2) sits in a second-place tie with St. Anne’s Eagles (6-1) from Clinton and Central Rams (6-3). Tied for first place are the undefeated St. Mikes Warriors and Northwestern Huskies, both 7-0.
In Senior boys action at Mitchell, the Salukis lost both of their league games.
The host Blue Devils downed St. Marys 56-37.
Derek Elliott and Derek Smitjes powered the Mitchell attack with 21 and 20 points, respectively.
Lucas Jeffrey had 17 points for DCVI, with Stan Froese adding seven.
In their second game, the Sr. Salukis dropped a close 30-24 to South Huron Panthers.
Nate Runhart had 10 points, and Ryan Horn nine for South Huron.
Lucas Jeffrey scored 11 points for St. Marys, with Brandon McLeod and Stan Froese adding four points apiece.
The losses leave the Sr. Salukis with a 1-7 record in the H-P standings. Stratford Central (8-0) and Wingham F.E. Madill (8-1) lead the pack. Stratford St. Mikes (6-1) and Mitchell (6-3) are tied for second.
Girls volleyball action
In H-P volleyball action last Tuesday, Feb. 4 at DCVI, Ruth Ann Waldick’s Senior girls went a perfect 6-0 in sets for the day.
The Sr. Salukis defeated Listowel Lightning 3-0 and Mitchell Devils 3-0.
The DCVI Seniors currently sit in fourth spot in the league standings with a 6-2 record. They have won 15 sets and lost nine.
St. Mikes and Stratford Central both have 8-0 records, with Northwestern in second with a 7-1 won-loss mark.
Stephen Chateauvert’s Junior girls defeated their Listowel counterparts 2-1, and then swept Mitchell 3-0 last Tuesday.
The DCVI Juniors are also in fourth place in the H-P standings with a 5-3 record, winning 14 sets and losing 10.
St. Mikes and Central are tied for first place with 8-0 record, followed by Northwestern with a 6-2 mark.
