Stratford Memorials Midget boys fastball team took advantage of the mercy rule as they defeated Sweaburg 14-3 in five innings Monday night at the Packham Road diamonds.
Leading the way with three runs scored was Doug Stevenson, who also homered and doubled.
Starting pitcher Brody Lagace-Roote and Tyler McKenny each crossed the plate twice, with Lagace-Roote also picking up a single. Scoring a run each were Mike Lamers, Jesse Stevenson, Mack Smith, Cody Heaman, Jake Nakluski, Matt Lamers and Jason Watt. Mike Lamers also added a single, Stevenson tripled, and Smith notched a pair of singles and a double.
Lagace-Roote pitched four innings, fanning six batters and walking three, before Carson Lamb took over on the mound to mop up.
The previous Monday night, the Memorials Midgets battled stifling heat and humidity in Sweaburg, defeating the host team 18-5.
During that contest, Stratford’s Jake Moulton belted two home runs over the fence in the convincing win.
Next action for the Memorials is Thursday night in Fullarton.
