It will be a very special day for the Stratford Atom MD team this Sunday afternoon at the Allman Arena.
The Warriors team was recent winners of the 2012-13 CBC Hyundai Hockey Nation contest.
Sponsored by Hyundai and CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada, a team of coaches and trainers, including former NHL coach Mike Keenan and former Canadian Olympian Ron Davidson, are travelling coast to coast to provide Canadian communities with a hockey experience they will never forget. Now in its third season, they’ve been to nine or 10 cities already.
“One of our hockey moms, Cathy Dingwell, e-mailed in to the contest every day for over a month,” said Atom MD manager Nikki Diebolt.
The Atom team is looking to get as many people out to the rink as possible. Sign making to cheer on your team is strongly recommended!
There is a full schedule from noon to 4 p.m.
From noon to 12:30 p.m., there will be a Parent Talk, hosted by the celebrity coaches, Ron Davidson and Mike Keenan, while players are changing in the dressing rooms.
From 12:15 to 12:45 p.m., there is a warm up with participants going through a dryland warm-up.
From 1:15 to 2:15 p.m., a team practice is scheduled with coaches Mike and Ron. The Atoms will then play a game from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m.
This Sunday at the Allman, people are urged to bring gently-used hockey equipment to support the Hyundai Hockey Helpers program.
“They are looking for donations of used hockey equipment to give to kids who can’t afford to play the game,” Diebolt added.
She noted that there may be a couple of other celebrity coaches attending as well.
