Stratford Erie Drive-In Squirts collected each a win and a loss in Grand Valley League softball action this week.
Flames defeated visiting Brantford in a thrilling 11-10 contest at Anne Hathaway Park. Katie Berg sparked the Stratford offence with a single, two walks and three runs scored. Tina Tiemens singled, drew a walk and scored twice, while Tahra Keen and Jessica Eidt each drew two walks and also scored two runs apiece. Natalie Hynd and Kennedy Fountain combined to strike out seven batters and gave up only five hits to share in the win.
On the road in Guelph, the Erie Drive-in Squirts kept the game close until Guelph eventually pulled away for a 16-6 victory. Claire Lavereau smashed a home run, tripled and scored a run to lead Stratford at the plate. Julia Cairns singled twice and scored twice. Andria Purvis and Olivia Bauwens were solid on the mound. Madison McKinley had a strong game in the field, while Emma Herold had a strong game behind the plate and Eidt had a diving catch in right field.
Stratford now sits with a 6-4 league record.
