SMP Minor Midgets open season with 4-2 road win

SARNIA - Stratford Motor Products Minor Midgets opened the 2012-13 Alliance season with a 4-2 win over Sarnia Sting here Saturday.

Warriors’ first goal of the season was scored by Dillon Ossendryver at the 7:25 mark of the first period. Josh Hill followed up a minute and 18 seconds later to put the team up 2-0.

Zac Houseworth’s goal at 6:49 of the second period proved to be the eventual winner for Stratford. Evan Metelsk’s unassisted marker completed the scoring for Stratford. Brandon Taylor, Wyatt Lansdell, Tristan Connolly and Brady Lauze each picked up an assist.

Overall, Warriors out-shot Sarnia 33-22.

Upcoming: The SMP Minor Midgets’ next game is in London this Friday night at the John Labatt Centre. It’s a prelude to London Knights’ OHL home opener against the Erie Otters.
