Legionnaires finally open baseball season

KINCARDINE – After four failed attempts, the Listowel Legionnaires finally played ball.

The club opened the Thames Valley Senior Baseball regular season with a 5-4 road defeat at the hands of the Kincardine Cubs on Saturday, May 28.

Three of Listowel’s first four games were rained out and the other was cancelled by the Cubs.

Legionnaires pitcher Pat Kelly (0-1) tossed a complete game, striking out five while allowing five hits, six walks and one hit-by-pitch. Two of the five runs were unearned.

John Dupuis (1-0) picked up the win after pitching two innings and allowing one earned run one on two hits and a pair of walks. He struck out two.

Brad Rowe threw seven innings surrendering four hits, four walks and two earned runs while fanning four.

Dave Brooks cranked Listowel’s first homerun of the season, a two-run shot cashing in a Kelly walk.

Cody Newbigging – celebrating his 21st birthday – went 2-for-4 at the plate with a single and a double.... Please read more in this weeks Listowel Banner
