U-16 girls compete in tourney

Stratford Gazette

Stratford Simplistic Lines U-16 soccer team participated in a tournament this past weekend hosted by the Stratford Strikers.

The girls got off to a solid start, tying Woolwich 0-0 in a well-played game which saw good chances at both ends of the field. Madelyn Giovinazzo recorded the shutout and Jaime VanNes had a very strong game on defence.

The U-16 squad lost a bit of a heartbreaker in game 2, falling 1-0 to Hamilton. Despite several opportunities, Stratford was unable to score until the third game against a very strong Norwest Fury team. Holy Rohfritsch worked the ball from the corner and set up Stephanie Cockwell for Simplistic’s lone goal in what turned out to be a 5-1 loss.
