U11 Strikers defeat premier team

Stratford Gazette

The Stratford Striker U11 Intermediate Girls soccer team played a friendly game against the Woodstock Spurs U11 Premier Girls, winning 3-2.

After a strong start, Woodstock showed why they are a level up and scored on a cross that eluded a sprawling Heather Denny. Stephanie Cockwell, Haley Doell, Samantha Wilson, Logan Empson and Sarah Beluzic displayed a strong defensive side to their game, holding Woodstock to a 1-0 halftime lead. Woodstock came out strong and built a 2-0 lead. Strong second half goaltending by Shannon Mazzanti rallied the girls to an extra level. Emily Woodhouse struck first with a beautiful feed from Erin Van Nes.

The team then started to pass the ball around their defenders leading Woodhouse to tally two more goals to put Stratford ahead for good. Strong play by Brianne Graf, Alyssa Hyde, Lauren Nothdurft, Anna Feore and Ayah Zeineddine led the Strikers to their first victory of the season.
