Scotia Pee Wees win in New York

Stratford Gazette

The Stratford ScotiaBank Pee Wees capped off their hockey season by winning a gold medal in the "A" division of the Rochester Rumble Tournament held at Rochester, N.Y. last weekend in spite of being shorthanded by recent season ending injuries sustained by team stalwarts Matt Woodhouse and Marcus Henke. The Warriors advanced through the qualifying round with a 1-1-1 record ensuring a berth in the semi-finals where they defeated the Elmira New York Jackals 4-0. Matt Zucca spearheaded the offence in that game with a hat trick. Ben Denham also scored for the Warriors. Strong forechecking games were played by Kyle Frey, and Ryan Butler while Jerry Ennett, Brent Renecker and Jordan Faulhafer were solid defensively. Kirk Lamb was outstanding in net securing the shutout with several key saves.

The Warriors faced a determined Bridgewater New Jersey Bears in the finals which the Warriors won 3-0. Solid forechecking by Josh Pinter and Dan Allely led to Luke Salter netting the winning goal late in the first period. Additional goals by Tanner Young-Schultz and Alex Hislop sealed the victory. Adam Reece was steady in net stopping 37 shots to earn the shutout. Solid play throughout the tournament earned Luke Salter MVP honours.
