Godfather Bantams get tie, win on the road

St. Marys Journal Argus

On Monday, May 30, the Godfather Bantam girls travelled to Ethel for Huron-Perth Fastball League action. It was a very even match all through the game, and it ended in a 10-10 tie.

In the top of the first inning, Meredith Hubbard started the visitors off with a single. Katelynn Feeney was next up and hit a home run to centre field.

In the bottom of the first, Ethel came back and also scored two runs and a see-saw battle was on.

"This is the way the whole game went. St. Marys would score runs and Ethel would do the same," the coaches reported.

Tanya Colbert was great behind the plate the whole evening. She tagged out a runner at home plate, while being bowled over and then threw it down to third to get that Ethel runner out, too.

It was a team effort with almost all St. Marys girls contributing a base hit.

The pitching duties were shared by Stacey Anderson and Lindsay Near.

Sebringville 5

On Wednesday, June 1, the Godfather Bantams travelled to Sebringville for their second away game of the week.

Everything seemed to come together for St. Marys as the visitors combined timely hits, strong defence and a big final inning to post a 12-5 victory over the home team.

Stacey Anderson, Sara Stacey, Emma Mitchell, Kate Armstrong, Hilary Hughes and Brittany McNaughton all contributed singles in the win.

Tanya Colbert and Lindsay Near both socked triples, and in the final inning with St. Marys only up by three runs Alissa Fraser slugged a grand slam home run to put the contest out of reach.

In the bottom of the sixth, Sebringville was shut down, three up three down!

Lindsay Near pitched a strong four innings for the win, with Stacey Anderson finishing the last two for the save.

Upcoming- Next home game for the Godfather Bantams is Tuesday, June 14 when Holmesville will be in town for an 8:30 p.m. start.
