Busy weekend for Northwestern wrestlers

Stratford Northwestern wrestlers were busy competing this past weekend, at Valley Heights on Friday and Sarnia on Saturday.

Thirteen Huskies took part in the Valley Heights wrestling tournament.

Winning gold for Northwestern were Esther Bartlett at 77 kg., Desiree French at 61 kg., Tola Francis at 77 kg. and Jamie Steckly at 83 kg.

Silver medals went to Carter McCue at 61 kg., Joey Jarvis at 72 kg., Brandon Tinning at 77 kg. and Cody Pinheiro at Heavyweight.

A bronze medal went to Wyatt Longhurst at 95 kg.

Other wrestlers fighting well for Northwestern included: Brett Belanger, Bailey Surette, Chris Pardy and Daniel Bald.

Northwestern placed a close second as a team at the Valley Heights tournament.

On Saturday, four Huskies wrestlers took part in the huge Sarnia St. Clair tournament.

Winning bronze was Jamie Steckly at 83 kg. with two wins. Placing fifth were Carter McCue at 61 kg. with three wins and Brandon Tinning at 77 kg. with two wins.

Also wrestling well was Desiree French at 61 kg. with two wins.

Northwestern's next wrestling competition will be at Waterloo/Oxford on Thursday, Feb. 5.
