Maybe you’re dreading it? Or perhaps you’re counting down the days? But for many of us, no matter how we feel, that time is on its way, whether we like it or not.
School away from home.
There are things you can do to make it easier for you and your young scholar.
Sending children out into the world is challenging. After all, since the moment we laid eyes on them, it has been our mission to keep them close and safe.
Now it’s time to let them go to begin life away. To set them up for success and let them know you care even if you’re not as close by, create a care package for your budding go-getter. It’ll give you an opportunity to anticipate some of their needs and stay one step ahead, helping both of you transition into this new life.
Consider the space in your child’s new dorm and invest in items to make it more functional—a space designed to support sleep, studying and socializing. Identify which school supplies will make their learning more effective and efficient. Finally, consider some creature comforts to help ease the transition from home to dorm. Think mini fridge, coffee maker, and inspiring touches like photographs and art.
Add things like 3M Command Hooks, which can be removed without damaging the walls (you want that damage deposit back!) and an agenda. Write some surprise notes in it to let them know you’re thinking about them. Add a deck of playing cards and of course, food. Include easy-to-prepare, nutritious, quick, dorm room-friendly meals. And sneak in some cleaning supplies!
You’ll feel better instantly knowing you’ve done your job and that they have everything they need for this new adventure.
