Not a question of religion

Stratford Gazette

Re: Payday Loan Companies - The rise of Vampire Capitalism, column, Nov. 13

I sat reading Ethan Rabidoux’s column and nodding my head thinking this guy’s good, what a great article on a subject that has been overlooked far too often... until I got to the last line.

I am an outspoken atheist as well as an avid supporter of keeping the word Christmas in the public lexicon rather than the generic term “holidays.”

However as an atheist I rather resent the suggestion that someone who in his words is, “more outraged by happy holidays than by a banking system that extracts billions from the meek of the earth” they have probably “already taken Christ out of Christmas, and every other part of their life.”

Christ is in no part of my life, neither is any other deity and yet I seem to manage to live a more “Christian” like lifestyle than most of the Christians I have met in my lifetime. I celebrate Christmas and every other day of my life by giving to both the local and global community in whatever way I can manage, and I don’t need your God to help me along.

Please don’t equate a godless lifestyle with the questionable prioritization of one’s ethics.

Otherwise keep up the great work. Merry Christmas.
