Storm-stayed at South Perth Centennial

St. Marys Journal Argus

Dear Editor:

The March 5 edition of the Journal Argus seemed to suggest that only one local school was affected by the Feb. 27, 2014 storm that left students stranded at school (“Late night for Downie buses due to storm”). At South Perth Centennial Public School, almost 160 students were storm-stayed at school.

The last students picked up by parents left our building at 7 p.m. During this time, teaching and support staff looked after “our kids,” fed them with what food we had on hand, played with them and comforted them.

As principal of South Perth, I would like to thank those staff members for their kindness, generosity and professionalism during this difficult time. I would also like to thank our students, who behaved so extraordinarily well throughout the afternoon and evening. Lastly, I would like to thank our parents, who bravely set out and got their children home safely.

Sincerely,

Jim Binns

Principal, South Perth Centennial School
