St. Marys resident surprised by dozens of ‘get well soon’ Valentine’s cards

St. Marys Journal Argus

Dear Editor:

Last April I turned 50. I expected the trifocals for my aging eyes, but not the breast cancer. I have been overwhelmed by the support from family and friends. Many have said that I've been an inspiration and my response is always one of surprise and humbleness. This weekend I was in the presence of true inspiration...

Meet Jamie Feltz, a seven year-old hockey player from outside Sebringville. I work with Jamie’s mom, Sandra. Going through surgeries, chemo and radiation I have received regular mail from Jamie — homemade cards with interesting pictures and jokes.

In January Jamie created dozens and dozens of Valentine’s Day cards, all different and all creative. And all made out to me. He and his mom, with the help of our colleague Trina (who has been a leader in my co-workers supporting our family in so many ways), took the cards to work. A donation jar was set up to buy a card for me. They sold like hotcakes!

On Saturday Trina arrived with Jamie and his mom and dad to surprise me with all the cards and the money that had been raised (holy smokes — $385!). One at a time Jamie showed me the uniqueness of each card and the thoughts shared in each by my wonderful co-workers.

Can you imagine the heart and spirit of this seven year-old? Can you imagine our world if he represents the youth of our future? We are in good hands and hearts.

The definition of inspiration (I am a word lover!): a divine influence directly and immediately exerted on the mind or soul.

Jamie, you are an inspiration. Thank you.
