River Road Run thanks

St. Marys Journal Argus

Dear Editor:

It was a chilly morning just over a month ago when runners joined in St. Marys for the annual River Road Run.

The run was added to the Runners Choice Run Piker Series this year. The series consists of seven runs (including the River Road Run) of which, if you complete four of the seven races, you are eligible for prizes.

The event was a huge success this year, attracting 310 runners with half of the participants from outside of town. The gross profit from the event was just under $11,000. The net profit will be divided between Holy Name and Little Falls schools to go towards increasing physical activity at each school.

We would like to thank the 47 volunteers who helped make the day run so smooth. These volunteers represent Holy Name, Little Falls and St. Marys DCVI working together to host an outstanding event.

A special thank you to Bob and Nina from Bob Smibert’s Fitness Studio for providing the warm-up for all the runners.

Community support is key to the success of the River Road Run. We would like to recognize and thank Sponsors of the Run: Norampac St. Marys (a division of Cascades Canada Inc.), Dick Masse Homes, the employees of Vet Purchasing, St. Marys Cement, McLean-Taylor Construction, Sam’s Home Hardware, St. Marys Insurance Group.

We would also like to recognize and thank our Community Supporters: Tradition Mutual, Hubbards Pharmacy, GraHam Energy Limited, Action Health Care, Julia Armstrong, RBC Royal Bank, Stephen McCotter Law Office, St. Marys Veterinary Clinic, Waghorn Stephens Law Office, and Bob Smibert’s Fitness Studio

Result for the race are posted at www.riverroadrun.ca. The overall winner in the 10 km race was A.J. Baucco of Willoughby Hills. Awards were also given to the top male and female in each category. Among the award-winners were: Ethan Aarts of Uniondale (first in 3 km male); Sam Bolton of St. Marys (second in 3 km male); Abbey Thorup of St. Marys (first in 3 km female); Deanna Kerekes of St. Marys (first in 5 km female); Madeline Aarts of Uniondale (second in 5 km female); Jeff Thuss of Goderich (second in 10 km male); and Beth Chaput of Stratford (first in 10 km female).

The River Road Run is now on Facebook. Look for us to view pictures from 2012 and get updates on next year’s race.

We hope to see everyone out again next year!

Sincerely,

Mary Jane Littlejohn and Jill Taylor
