To the Editor:
The weather may have been chilly, but Saturday, Oct. 20 warmed our hearts. This is the second year that the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation has participated in the CKNX Radio “Healthcare for Heroes” Radiothon fundraiser, and we are delighted to report that, thanks to the generosity of our community, over $32,500 was raised, to be put towards a new digital x-ray machine for St. Marys Memorial Hospital.
In addition to the community members who made a monetary donation or participated in the day’s events, there are many people that the foundation would like to thank for their help in making the event a success:
Rob Edney and the students of the World’s Coolest Music Store for supplying music downtown during the breakfast;
Our local doctors and healthcare staff for the delicious breakfast and entertaining costumes;
Brad and Jenny Roth for the terrific sausage lunch at Home Hardware;
Area teachers and students for participating in the hospital essay contest;
Andy Forman and Forman Electric for installing and taking down our Queen Street banner;
Al Strathdee and Mary McIntosh for making the trip to Wingham on Saturday to work at the radio station;
All the volunteers who worked at our store front and other events, especially Lita Miandro of the Hospital Auxiliary;
The Kinsmen Club for setting up the tables for the breakfast;
John Rinn for the use of his building;
June Gevaert for allowing us to use her antique radio collection for our window display
Mike Richardson for many things relating to fundraising, and especially for taking photos downtown during the Radiothon;
Tim Hortons, for donating the proceeds of their “Smile Cookie” promotion to the hospital foundation;
The Farmers’ Market and the downtown merchants who had donation jars on their counters, and everyone who put up a poster to promote the day; and,
Our community newspapers for exceptional coverage and promotion of the Radiothon.
“If we all do a little, we all get a lot” is the slogan for the CKNX Radiothon. The members of the St. Marys Memorial Hospital Foundation are overwhelmed by how many people did more than “a little” to make the day a success. We have achieved a lot, and our community should be proud.
