Citizens will be standing up against the omnibus budget bill in a nationwide action organized by Leadnow and the members of Stratford Democracy Watch locally.
Canadians will be rallying against Bill C-38. The 752 clauses in the 425-page bill amend 60 different acts. It affects policies in numerous areas which should be split up in order to be examined and debated in Parliament, not buried in a budget bill.
In an article from the Chronicle Herald this week, Paul McLeod from the Ottawa bureau writes that the government refuses to release details of the cost of the budget to the Parliamentary budget officer, Kevin Page. Page says that the budget cuts are twice as high as the government claims. He said the government is acting like it, rather than Parliament, has ultimate control over the public purse.
We want to express our concern about this profoundly undemocratic bill and urge MPs to vote for democracy by voting against the omnibus budget bill. Please join us at Mr. Schellenberger’s office on Saturday, June 2 at 1 p.m.
