Re: Respect change, letter to the editor, March 12
I was a little shocked to read Mr. Cooney’s letter regarding his lack of connection with Gallery Stratford.
In my opinion, it seems he is describing a gallery in a big city like Toronto rather than the gallery I have grown to love here in Stratford over the last five years.
Although I may not like the piece of art hanging on the wall of a gallery, I certainly do appreciate the talents of the artist responsible for the work, and all the staff and volunteers involved in order to create an art exhibition.
The same goes for other “arts” like music and the theatre here in Stratford. I certainly appreciate and support the talents of the musicians and actors, even if their music and plays are not what I would choose to listen to or watch on a daily basis.
Art is subjective and there is no right or wrong.
But as far as how decisions are made, who makes them, and where the money comes from in regards to Gallery Stratford, Mr. Cooney’s insinuations are definitely wrong. I would encourage him and any others who wish to learn how things are really done to contact me via Gallery Stratford.
I may not be a baby-boomer, but I do know a little bit about the inner workings at our Gallery.
