LISTOWEL – For anyone looking to add a touch of uniqueness to their home, Laurel’s Vintage Shop may have just what you need.
Located on Highway 86 just a few miles west of Listowel, Laurel’s Vintage Shop was opened in October as a joint venture between Laurie Brink and her husband, Paul.
As regular visitors to flea markets, Laurie said Paul’s job as a carpenter and her 20 years experience in kitchen and bath design makes a good team when it comes to refurbishing and reinventing old pieces of furniture.
“He fixes stuff up and then I paint it,” Brink said. “We love old stuff that other people once upon a time had cherished.”
With new items coming in regularly, is the place to visit to see what may have come in this week.
“We just like to come up with unique and crazy designs and go from there,” Brink said.
Laurel’s Vintage Shop is also a distributor of Chalk Paint, the no-prep paint from designer Annie Sloan that’s become the go-to product for easy makeovers for furniture and more. According to Brink, the Chalk Paint has been a big seller among her customers, who previously had to drive to New Hamburg or Hanover for the product.
“I’ve only had the paint for a week and I’ve had people in every day,” she said. “I had a lot of people excited about not having to drive an hour to get it.”
Chalk Paint is available in over 30 colours, and its unique properties makes it possible to start and finish a product in the same day, Brink said.
“You don’t have to strip a piece of furniture before you paint it, you can just wipe a piece clean and apply the Chalk Paint to it,” she said. “It’s very user friendly and immediate enjoyment.”
Customers are invited to the Laurel’s Vintage Shop Christmas open house on Friday, Dec. 4 and Saturday, Dec. 5 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and enter for a chance to win a Chalk Paint gift basket.
Laurel’s Vintage Shop is located at 6578 Perth Line 86 and can be contacted by calling 226-622-8564.
