KITCHENER – The Listowel Cyclones have been eliminated from the GOJHL playoffs following a 6-2 loss to the Kitchener Dutchmen last night.
The second-seeded Dutchmen scored five unanswered goals on March 5 at Kinsmen Arena to clinch the Midwestern Conference quarter-final series four games to one. It is the third consecutive year that Kitchener has ousted Listowel from the opening round of the playoffs.
Adam Kawalec and Nic Hague each point up four points for Kitchener in the win. Jackson McIntosh made 25 saves in the Dutchmen net.
Brady Anderson and Tim Nauta tallied for Listowel. Ryan Hergott stopped 31 of 36 shots for the Cyclones, with the last Kitchener goal going into the empty net.
Kitchener will now meet either the Stratford Cullitons or the Waterloo Siskins in the Cherrey Cup semifinals. The top-seeded Elmira Sugar Kings face either the Siskins or the Cambridge Winter Hawks.
