Sally Denstedt

Sally Elizabeth (nee McLean) Denstedt passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 at Victoria Hospital at the age of 77.

Dear mother to Ann-Marie Fitz-Gerald, Marrie Fullerton (Dave), Shelly Knechtel, Brenda Davis (Jim McNair) and Brian Denstedt (Katie). Fondly remembered by Danielle and Jimmy Lapthorne and their father Jim, Meaghan and Miranda Fullerton, Brayden and Heidi Knechtel and their father Dave, Kendra Davis and her father Keith and Louiza Denstedt.  Sister to Jack McLean (Diane), Nancy McLean and Susan Rankin (Carter Arnold). Sally will be missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Predeceased by her husband Earl (February 1998) and granddaughter Sarah (August 2005).

A memorial visitation will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at Needham Funeral Service (520 Dundas Street, London 519-434-9141). A private interment will take place at a later date.

Rita Vollmer

Mrs. Rita Mary (Freiburger) Vollmer of Listowel passed away at Listowel Memorial Hospital on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014 at the age of 83.

Beloved wife of Joseph Vollmer. Mother of Paulette and Ralph Coneybeare of RR 4 Listowel, Robert and Trish Vollmer of Kitchener, James and Janice Vollmer of London, William and Lynn Vollmer of Edmonton, Alberta, Murray and Shelly Vollmer of RR 2 Wingham, and Susan and Steve Player of Listowel. Grandmother of 19 and great-grandmother of seven.

Sister of Harold Freiburger, Margaret Fitzgerald, and Ralph Freiburger, all of Waterloo, Hilbert and Evelyn Freiburger of Kitchener, and Jean and Larry Robertson of Hamilton; and sister-in-law of Norma Freiburger of Sault Ste. Marie, and Carol Freiburger and Loreen Freiburger, both of Waterloo.

Predeceased by her infant son Richard; sisters Sister Herbert Freiburger, Theresa Davidson, Helen Freiburger and Lorraine Hartman; her brothers Jerome, Claude, Robert and William Freiburger; and brothers-in-law John Fitzgerald and Leon Hartman.

Rita was one of 14 children born to Herbert and Alfreda (Strauss) Freiburger, and raised in the St. Clements area. She and Joseph were married in 1955, and raised their six children while farming in Elma Township for 35 years.

Rita was an active member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Listowel, where she was a 40-year member of the CWL. In addition to helping in the church whenever there was a need, she also loved to make crafts and play cards with both family and friends.

Visitation will be held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Wednesday, Dec. 17 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with parish prayers and rosary at 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Listowel on Thursday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. Interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hesson.

Memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Building Fund would be appreciated.

Larry Baker

Larry Brian Baker passed peacefully at Simcoe Hospice on Thursday, Dec. 11 2014, at the age of 71, following a courageous battle with mesothelioma.

Soul mate and adored husband of Joan (nee Danbrook), Larry was the very proud father of Michele (John) Gordon of Tantallon, N.S., Richard (Krystal) of St. John, N.B., (step) Dad to Brian (Shannon) Knight of Barrie and Jen Dardarian of Cambridge. Devoted and fun-loving Grampa/Papa of Chris and Katie Gordon, Jamie, Sara and Josh Dardarian, and Cameron and Connor Knight.

Born and raised in Hespeler, Larry began his career with Babcock & Wilcox in 1961. In 1977 he formed a partnership, MBB Mechanical in Lakeside, N.S. until retiring in 1997.

Larry and Joan returned to Ontario in 1998 and settled on the water in Orillia where he enjoyed his passions of boating, golfing and travelling. Spending time with family and friends was the most important part of his and Joannie’s life together.

There is a huge void in many, many hearts that have been touched by this kind, gentle soul. He will be dearly missed.

Larry’s family will welcome friends to the Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge on Thursday, Dec. 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Friday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m.

Donations in memory of Larry can be made to Simcoe Hospice, Barrie or to Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Orillia.

Alvin Jack

Mr. Alvin Campbell  Jack, formerly of Listowel, passed away at Knollcrest Lodge, Milverton, on Monday, Dec. 8, 2014, at the age of 100.

Beloved husband of the late Eva (Mason) Jack. Dear father of Faye McGreal of Hamilton, and Roy and Sheila Jack of Cambridge. Grandfather of Stephen and Sandy McGreal of Binbrook, Todd and Laura McGreal of Caledonia, Susan and Ed Murdoch of Oakville, and Julie and Matt McLennan of Glen Morris; and great-grandfather of Austin McGreal, Dillon McGreal, Spencer McGreal, Logan Murdoch, Cole Murdoch and Sierra Murdoch. Remembered also by his friend Ruth Jedrzejewski and her family.

Predeceased by his son-in-law Alex McGreal.

Alvin served in the navy during the Second World War, and was the eldest member of the Listowel Legion. He was also a member of I.B.E.W. Local 804, Kitchener (electrical union), and the Clifford Masonic Lodge.

A celebration of Alvin’s long and well-lived life and a Legion Memorial Service was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Monday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. Visitation was one hour prior, and reception at the Listowel Legion followed.

Memorial donations to Listowel Memorial Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

Sarah Cole

Sarah Elizabeth Cole of Listowel passed away at Victoria Hospital, London, after a brief battle with cancer, on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at the age of 33.

Beloved daughter of Bruce and Janie Cole of Listowel. Dear sister of Lindsay and James Duncan of Toronto, and loving aunt of Henry and Agnes.

She will be remembered by her maternal aunts and uncles Jackie and David Rugwell of Kelowna, B.C. and Malcolm and Luci Clark of St. Thomas; and her cousins Jennifer Clark, Alison (Christian) Iwaniuk, Laura (Tyrell) Huntington, and Cameron, Lily, Liam, and Maggie Clark; and by her paternal aunts and uncles Barbara Cole of Lambeth, and David and Linda Cole, Anne and David Norman and Patti Cole, all of London; and by her cousins Cole Tavener, Adam and Jordan Cole, Matthew (Danielle) Cole, Jeff Cole, Lesley-Anne (Stuart) Love and Susan Norman.

Predeceased by her grandparents Sydney and June Cole, and William “Bunny” and Barbara Clark, and by her uncle Morris William Clark,

Visitation was held at the Eaton Funeral Home, Listowel on Tuesday, Dec. 16 from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, Listowel on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Listowel. Sarah’s family hopes you will consider donations to the Listowel Salvation Army Christmas Campaign in honour of Sarah’s support and appreciation of their Christmas Outreach Programs.

Rita Graff

Rita Graff passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014 at Listowel Memorial Hospital. Rita resided in Millbank and was born 89 years ago in Mornington Township. She was the daughter of the late William and Anna (Querin) Vollmer.

Beloved wife of the late George Graff, who predeceased her in 1994. Loving mother of Murray Graff and wife Lee of Woodstock, Larry Graff and wife Sharon of Kingsville, Nancy Hollinger and husband Ed of Listowel, Elaine Schiestel and husband Cloyd of Palmerston, Gerald (Jr.) Graff and wife Heather of New Hamburg, and Sheila Collinson and husband Ed of Listowel.

Sadly missed by her grandchildren Melissa, David, Stacey, Rob, Sherri, Annette, Chrissy, Michael, Kelly, Nicole, Tyler, Jan and Jenny; and her great-grandchildren Rilee, Kaiden, Lincoln, Griffin, Tristan, Kyle, Sara, Jason, Justin, Aaron, Delaney, Brayden, Cole, Karly, Kaitlyn and Fenton.

Remembered by her sisters Helen Dobson, Jean Stemmler and husband Gord, and Edna Wick and husband Fred; sister-in-law Beverley Vollmer and brother-in-law Frank Gibbons.

Rita was predeceased by her children Douglas (2013), Janice, Paul and Charles, all in infancy; grandsons Anthony and Dwayne; brothers Carl Vollmer and wife Clara, Sheldon Vollmer and wife Leona, Elgin Vollmer and wife Beatrice, Lorne Vollmer and Edgar Vollmer; sister Betty Gibbons and brother-in-law William Dobson

Rita was a member of St. Clements Roman Catholic Church and a former member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Hesson.

Family and friends were received at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, Milverton on Sunday Dec. 14 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass took place on Monday, Dec. 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Clements Roman Catholic Church. Interment in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Hesson.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario or Canadian Diabetes Association.
