Helen Coles

March 9, 1928 – September 14, 2014

Helen Coles passed away peacefully at The Gardens in Qualicum Beach on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014.

She leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 65 years, Jack, and son, John. Helen was predeceased by her other son, Bill, in 1979.

Helen was born in Listowel, Ontario where she attended both public and high school. She worked as a secretary for Ontario Hydro and other local businesses.

Helen married N. John “Jack” Coles on Oct. 31, 1949. She and Jack moved from Medicine Hat, Alberta to Victoria, B.C. where Helen went to work at CFB Esquimalt. When she retired in 1985, they moved to Qualicum Beach.

Helen was active in the community, volunteering at Trillium Lodge and at the Cancer Society office. She enjoyed golf, curling, and traveling with Jack in their airplane.

Burial will take place at a later date in Listowel.

Maurice Johnston

R. F. Maurice Johnston (31 years Canadian General Electric) passed away on Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at Hospice Simcoe, Barrie at the age of 83.

Predeceased by six brothers and one sister.

Husband of Patricia Johnston. Father of Donald (Kathryn) and Sean (Heather). Grandfather of Timothy and Derek.

Member of the Barrie Toastmasters Club, Barrie Camera Club, Ontario, Association of Certified Engineering Technologists and Society of Manufacturing Engineers. Former member of the Oro-Barrie-Orillia Regional Airport Advisory Committee. Maurice enjoyed family, friends and neighbours, computers, flying and photography.

Friends may call at Adams Funeral Home, 445 St. Vincent Street, Barrie on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service in the chapel at 11 a.m.

Special thanks to Dr Michael McConvey and Hospice Simcoe. Donations can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Scholarship Fund.
