U-12 Hiller Strikers shine at St. Catharines soccer tournament

Stratford Gazette

The U-12 Hiller Realty girls Strikers soccer team travelled to St. Catharines to take on teams they never faced before.

The solid defence of Emma Patton, Lauren Douglas, Sarah Frank and Isabelle Thibeault were an almost impenetrable wall. Only one well-timed pass and run by a Niagara Falls competitor got past Stratford’s wall and goalie for the only goal scored against them the entire weekend.

Goalkeeper duties were shared by Jada Kraemer and Alexis Cantarutti. Both netminders were impressive the whole weekend with well-timed stops and solid boots out of their zones.

Cantarutti posted an impressive shutout, while Kraemer pulled double duty. She was at an almost 100-percent save percentage while in net. While playing out, Kraemer created numerous scoring opportunities.

The Strikers’ midfield of Patricia Suteu, Jessica Rae, Lauren Steele and Lilly Ballantyne played absolutely fantastic, protecting their own zone while at the same time feeding the ball to the offence that was hungry to score.

The middle core of Abigail Vancea and Ashley Humphrey were solid the entire weekend. The combination of their through passes to the offence and their own scoring opportunities put fear into their opponents.

The offence of Mihret Elisazwit , Brooke Muir and Clara Sangster was hungry to score.

The teams that the U-12 Strikers faced from Toronto, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls were on their heels the whole weekend doing the best they could to withstand the numerous shots on their goalies.

Mihret Elisazwit had two goals. Sangster had two of her own and Brooklyn Muir had the lone penalty shot after being taken down on a sure goal opportunity.

Assists by Emma Patton, Jada Kraemer, Mihret Elisazwit, Abigail Vancea and Ashley Humphrey were crucial to the victories on the weekend.
