LISTOWEL – With winter finally beginning to release its stubborn grip on Midwestern Ontario, local golfers have become increasingly anxious to get out and hit the links for the first time this year.
They now may have the chance, as the Listowel Golf Club tentatively opens 18 holes today (April 30). Additionally, the driving range, pro shop and clubhouse restaurant are open to all members and non-members alike.
“The opening date is about two weeks later than a normal year,” said Brenden Parsons, Listowel Golf Club director of operations. “There was some concern over the winter about the amount of ice buildup and its affect on the turf, however when the snow finally melted we have suffered no damage from the nasty winter except for an enormous amount of branches down from the ice storm.”
Parsons added that all 27 holes would be open for play as soon as the weather allows.
