Mail-in Malcontent

Stratford Gazette

Members of the local chapter of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) gathered on Saturday morning to deliver letters of protest to Stratford homes.

The letters, which are being forwarded on to Perth-Wellington MP Gary Schellenberger, express disappointment in the Conservatives decision to approve Canada Post’s plan to end door-to-door mail delivery, and demand that more effort be made to make the crown corporation more financially viable through initiatives like postal banking.

The union has delivered 4,000 letters so far, and hope to eventually deliver one to each of Stratford’s 14,000 homes.

The union also plans to attend City Hall to deliver a petition asking for a bylaw banning community mail boxes in the city.
