Police asking kids to stay away from ice on river

Stratford Gazette

The Stratford Police Service sent out a safety reminder today after receiving numerous calls about young people walking on the ice on the Avon River.

The ice has not been deemed strong enough to support body weight, and there remains open areas of water on the river, say authorities.

"It is extremely dangerous to use the ice on the Avon river as a short cut," says Insp. Sam Theocharis. "The Stratford Police Service is asking people to stay off the ice since it is extremely dangerous to be on it at this time."
