St. Marys skaters bring home haul of medals

St. Marys Journal Argus

HUNTSVILLE - Congratulations to two St. Marys skaters who posted great results and brought home a haul of medals from the 35th annual Skokie Skate held here Oct. 25 to 27.

Leah Pellizzari had a very busy, but successful weekend capturing two silver medals in Starskate Introductory Interpretive and Senior Bronze Team Elements, plus a bronze in Junior Bronze Spins and fourth place in Senior Bronze Elements.

Leah also competed her solo at Competitive Pre-Juvenile U-14 level and placed fifth in a tough flight.

Leah is currently in training, with coach Cindy Brick, for the upcoming Skate Canada Western Ontario Junior Sectionals to be held in Niagara Falls this weekend, Nov. 1-3.

This is a Competitive level event, where she will be competing against 17 other skaters for the chance to qualify for Junior Nationals. The top three skaters will advance to Nationals and fourth, fifth and sixth places progress to the Ontario Winter games. Good luck Leah!

Two bronze for Connie

Connie Gozzard came home with two bronze medals from Skokie Skate, competing in Starskate Silver Interpretive and Junior Silver Spins.

A great achievement as Connie has only been back skating since June due to a serious injury, with subsequent surgery, that took her off the ice for five months early in 2013.

Thanks to Tricia McBryde and staff at Stonetown Physiotherapy for all their hard work getting her back to fitness.
