TAVISTOCK - The annual Cephas Roth Memorial fastball tournament goes here this weekend, July 11-14, featuring 10 Senior men’s teams.

The line-up includes: Jarvis Hallman Twins, Hill United, Kitchener Cubs, Shakespeare Falcons, Elmira Expos, Scarborough Force, Lake Simcoe Lightning and Wiarton Nationals, plus two Michigan teams, Midland Explorers and the Huron Wellness StockPak--a combined team from Port Huron and Ashland, Ohio.

Jarvis, three-time defending ISC champs, and Hill United are among the top-rated club teams in the world. Two of the Hill United players are St. Marys native Dale Levy and Australian Adam Folkard, one of the top pitchers on the planet. Team Canada’s Don Scott, a Sebringville area native, pitches for Scarborough.

The field will be divided into two pools of five, so all teams are guaranteed four games. Both the Queens and Optimist diamonds will be used to accommodate the games.

The tourney kicks off with two games on the Thursday night at Queen’s Park. On Friday, games start at 5 p.m., with three games on each diamond. There will be games all day on Saturday, including a couple at the nearby Shakespeare diamond.

Quarter-final playoff games are scheduled for 9 o’clock on Saturday night, one on each diamond.

Semi-finals and the championship final will be held at Queens Park Sunday, starting at 9 a.m. The final is slated for 1:30 p.m.

The winner of the Tavistock tournament earns an automatic berth in the 2014 ISC World Senior men’s fastball tourney, being hosted by Kitchener.

Notes:

• Hill United, coached by Mitchell area resident Doug Eidt, starts Friday at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

• The North Waterloo Bantam boys all-star game will again be held during the tournament. It will be held at Queens Park, at approximately 5 p.m. or 5:30 p.m., just before the quarter-final playoff game Saturday evening.

• There will be live entertainment in the brand new 8,000 square-foot pavilion at Queens Park on both Friday and Saturday evenings. Tavistock’s own Katie Roth performs Friday night. Cory Gerber is the featured performer on Saturday.

• Shakespeare Falcons will be the host team at the Canadian Senior men’s fastball championships, held in Stratford, the week leading up to and including Labour Day weekend.
