SPECIAL TO THE BANNER

On June 11 at the Atwood Presbyterian Church, 65 Institute members and guests met for an informative evening of fun and fellowship.

President Marjorie Hoshel welcomed everyone with a reading – followed by the Institute Ode and Mary Stewart Collect.

Diane Hain introduced our speaker – Linda Slits of Brunner – representing the Milverton Agricultural Fair. She was also crowned CNE Ambassador of the Fairs for 2012. She spoke with great poise and self-confidence.

This year-long title takes her across Ontario as a representative of the CNE and all agricultural fairs. She also spends 18 days in Toronto during the CNE and promotes all facets of the agricultural spectrum.

Brenda Van de Gevel introduced our second speaker – Melissa Pyke – who gave a very personal message being a recipient of a double lung transplant at the young age of 23-years-old. She was so happy to be a part of the Just Breathe campaign and spoke on the importance of organ donations. Both guest speakers were two amazing young speakers with very strong messages.

Hoshel and Van de Gevel then put on a skit entitled “Interview of a House Wife.”

The penny auction, bake table and gumdrop cakes were enjoyed by all present.

The president presented Marilyn Whaley with her Life Membership Award and pin for her 25 years of work and dedication to the Donegal Women’s Institute.

A delicious luncheon closed out this special evening. Lucky door prizes were won by Louise Newbigging and Dianne Royce.
