MOLESWORTH – Ontario will be well represented come July at the national 55+ five-pin bowling championships in Alberta, as three area gentlemen will be making the trip in hopes of becoming Canada’s finest.
Wayne Hartung of North Perth, Bob Searson of Listowel and Pete Eskritt from Gorrie will travel to Edmonton on July 8-9 to play for the Triples Team National Championship. The trio that plays in the Club 55 league out of Molesworth became the provincial representatives after winning the all-Ontario tournament in Burlington two weeks ago.
Hartung, Searson and Eskritt had a 31-point-over average compared to the second place team to win the honours.
“Nobody gets too serious about it,” said Searson. “It’s nice we’re going.”
The three have about 14 years regular bowling experience between them and emerged as the top three players from their local league to take part in the regional qualifier in Mount Forest in March. The Molesworth Lanes squad won that tournament to move them on to Burlington, and now find themselves preparing to roll for all the marbles this summer.
“Friendship,” said Hartung of what he enjoys most about bowling in Club 55. “It’s a team effort, and it’s a real fun time.”
