Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass

Stratford Gazette

The Stratford Concert choir, under the direction of guest conductor Imre Olah, continues their 31st season with an offering of Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass, to be held on Sunday, March 24 at 3 p.m. at Central United Church, 194 Avondale Avenue, Stratford.

This is a concert of stirring music for Palm Sunday featuring the powerful mass of Haydn dedicated to his friend, Admiral Horatio Nelson. Choral gems from 18th century Vienna by Schubert and Mozart complete this program. Choir Director Ian Sadler will perform Mozart’s “Fantasia in F minor” on the organ.

Soloists for this performance include soprano Catharine Sadler, contralto Heather Jewson, tenor Christopher Mayell, and bass Gary Relyea.

The Stratford Concert Choir is a 90-plus voice auditioned choir committed to the presentation of the best of the classical choral repertoire.

Advance tickets cost $20 and are available for purchase from Blowes Stationery, Hallmark Cards at Festival Mall, Gospel Lighthouse, Stratford Tourism Alliance, or any choir members. You can also call 519-393-6879 to book your tickets, or check out the choir’s website at www.stratfordconcertchoir.com.

Tickets at the door cost $25, while young people 16 and under get in free.
