There’s no doubt that had a couple more bounces went their way, the Milverton 4WheelDrives could very well be in the next round of the WOAA Senior ‘AA’ playoffs.

Unfortunately the hockey gods were not on their side in games four and five of their opening round matchup with Tavistock. The Royals prevailed in overtime for the second straight game on Saturday, clinching the series at home in five games with a 4-3 victory.

Tavistock held a 3-1 edge heading into the third period, but a persistent Milverton attack resulted in the second of Dennis Dewar’s two goals halfway through the frame. Then with 23 seconds remaining in regulation, Brock West’s first of the playoffs sent the game to overtime on a timely goal from Dewar and Brent Freeman.

But it was Greg Virgo who ended the Drives’ season just over three minutes into overtime, beating goaltender Colin Breen to send the Royals to the quarterfinals where they will now face the Petrolia Squires.
