Listowel Banner

NORTH PERTH – Shortly after 9 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 18 members of the Perth County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were dispatched to a two-vehicle collision on Perth Line 72 approximately five km west of Newry.

Investigation revealed that a Chrysler car was travelling westbound on Perth Line 73 when its driver proceeded to turn into a private driveway located on the south side of the road. The car turned into the path of an eastbound pickup truck causing the vehicles to collide in the eastbound lane.

The driver of the car was extricated from the vehicle by the North Perth Fire Department and was transported to Listowel Memorial Hospital, from where he was later transported by air ambulance to London Health Sciences Centre with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the pickup truck, a 26-year-old male from Bloomington, Ontario was treated and released from Listowel Memorial Hospital.

On Saturday afternoon Jan. 19, the driver of the car died at the London Health Sciences Centre. He has been identified as William Lucas, 84, a resident of North Perth.
