LISTOWEL – The sergeant’s desk at the North Perth OPP detachment is seeing a shake-up again, with the office getting a new face.

Effective Jan. 21, Sgt. Steph Pilon will be making the transition to the OPP detachment in West Perth, and Mike Scott will be making the move to North Perth as the new OPP sergeant. After being here for nearly two years, Pilon said he’s enjoyed his time in North Perth.

“I’ve learned a lot and met lots of good people,” he said. “It was a pretty smooth two years, and there were some challenges we just totally overcame.”

Pilon was a driving force behind the renovation of the OPP offices in the North Perth municipal building last year, which saw the addition of some much-needed space to the police offices in the basement. Pilon said he’s going to miss the comfort of the area, but expects to be back in the course of his duties as sergeant across Perth County.

“Even though we’re contract sergeants, we’re still Perth County sergeants, so we back each other up,” Pilon said. “If the need comes, we’ll be back to assist.”

Sgt. Mike Scott comes to North Perth with 28 years of police experience, and 17 years on crime units across the province. Scott was previously a detective and spent two years teaching major case management at the Ontario Police College.

“Now that I’m back in uniform, I’d like to bring my experience back to the front line here in North Perth,” he said.

Residing in Blyth, Scott said he’s familiar with the area in North Perth and he’s looking forward to bringing his own touch to the role of sergeant in the community.

“I’m looking forward to some stability and bringing my enthusiasm, some passion to the job,” he said. “No big changes but little things, getting back to old fashioned policing where you know everybody.”
