GOWANSTOWN – North Perth’s newest parents of 2013 say they’re still adjusting to the role of parenthood, but excited at their new addition.

Byren Edward Kroeker, the first baby of the new year at Listowel Memorial Hospital, was born on Jan. 2 at 7:50 a.m. to parents Rebekah and Pedro Kroeker. Byren’s arrival in 2013 was overdue a few days, his parents say, so it was no surprise when they went into the hospital the night before.

“We went in the middle of the night, we knew he was coming,” Pedro said.

Following a labour that was “long enough” Rebekah said with a laugh, Byren was born, weighing 8 pounds, 4 ounces. As new parents, Pedro said the feeling will take some adjusting.

“It’s overwhelming, but we’re extremely thankful that everyone is really healthy,” Pedro said. “We’re just extremely thankful.”

Mostly though, Pedro and Rebekah say they’re excited for what lies ahead, with most of their attention directed at home.

“My mind’s here a lot,” Pedro said. “We’re adjusting to losing some sleep, that’s for sure.”
