Area municipalities get funding boost for projects through Farm Credit Canada

Stratford Gazette

Three area municipalities had their wish lists granted ahead of Christmas this year when Farm Credit Canada (FCC) announced its newest grant recipients.

FCC is giving 24 organizations in rural Ontario $256,250 through its AgriSpirit Fund for community projects that help improve quality of life for residents. In total, the company has awarded $1 million across Canada.

Receiving $10,000 each are the Tavistock & District Recreation Centre Facilities Board, North Easthope Public school, and the Municipality of West Perth.

Funding will support the purchase of  an equipment storage shed, playground equipment and a multi-use pavilion in Tavistock, playground equipment for the school, located northeast of Stratford, and the construction of a centennial park in conjunction with the 2013 International Plowing Match, being held just outside of Mitchell.

Now in its ninth year, the FCC AgriSpirit Fund awards rural community groups between $5,000 and $25,000 for community improvement projects such as recreation and community centres, libraries and emergency services training facilities.

The fund supports much-needed projects and celebrates the people responsible for making a positive difference in the lives of those around them.

To receive funding, selected groups must meet specific criteria prior to implementing their projects, which must be finalized before December 2014.

Nationally, 1,079 applications were received for FCC AgriSpirit funding, a clear indication that people in rural Canada are passionate about their communities, and are doing their part to ensure they continue to thrive.

“It takes a lot of heart and soul to make a difference in any community,” says Barry Smith, FCC vice-president of western Ontario operations. “And, the diversity of this year’s FCC AgriSpirit Fund recipients shows that the spirit of volunteerism is alive and well in rural communities across the country.”

Applications for the 2013 FCC AgriSpirit Fund will open in May 2013. Visit for eligibility requirements and more information.
