Veterans will be honoured at Legion dinner

Branch 236 of the Royal Canadian Legion will once again host area veterans for a Remembrance Day Dinner on Sunday, Nov. 11.

Cocktails begin at 5 p.m.; the dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

The local branch of the Legion marked Remembrance Day in St. Marys last weekend, organizing the placement of Canadian flags at the gravesites of war veterans in the St. Marys Cemetery on Saturday, and holding its traditional Parade and Cenotaph Ceremony on Sunday.

Major Jim Hann of the St. Marys Salvation Army church conducted the service. Members of the 4th Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment, based out of Stratford, were stationed at the Cenotaph’s platform.

Dignitaries in attendance included St. Marys Mayor Steve Grose and Perth-Wellington MP Gary Schel-lenberger, as dozens of wreaths were placed around the Cen-otaph by dignitaries, representatives of various service organizations and community groups, and private family members paying tribute to their fallen kin.

Following the St. Marys service, members of Branch 236 — along with Schellenberger and Perth South Mayor Bob Wilhelm — conducted a separate service at the Cenotaph in Rannoch.

Those wishing to observe Remembrance Day on Nov. 11 are invited to attend the Royal Canadian Legion ceremony in Stratford.
