Campaign 2012 is just around the corner and United Way Perth-Huron has been gathering its team of volunteers.
Among them are the new 2012 campaign co-chairs, media personalities Elizabeth Cooper and Nick Sawicki.
“The role of the campaign chair is to be the spokesperson of the campaign and provide the leadership, motivation and energy to inspire donors, volunteers, and the community as a whole throughout the duration of the campaign,” explains Ryan Erb, executive director of United Way Perth-Huron.
Cooper has worked for the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, was one of the founders of the Stratford City Gazette and was the website coordinator, head copywriter and back-up newscaster for Stratford’s radio stations CJCS and MIX FM. She is currently the editor for the online news site I on Stratford.
She is also an active community citizen as a board member and volunteer for many local causes and charitable organizations, including acting with the Stratford Community Players.
Most recently, Cooper co-edited the book entitled, “Not Like Any Other Sunday.” A portion of the sales proceeds (over $21,000) went back into the Town of Goderich to Victim Services of Huron County and to the town’s reforestation project after the tornado.
Sawicki is a radio personality on the morning show at 101.7 The One, based in Wingham, whose love of people and building of community is apparent in his wealth of volunteer work.
While in Alberta he volunteered for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Relay for Life, Fort McMurray Multicultural Society, and United Way Fort McMurray, to name only a few. He continued to give back to his community after transferring to Ontario, contributing towards many causes including the CKNX Radiothon, Heels for Hospitals in Clifford, the Goderich Kinsmen TV Auction, and the MS Walk in Kincardine.
“Nick and Elizabeth are enthusiastically committed to volunteering throughout this year’s campaign by hosting events, sharing the message and energizing the campaign,” says United Way manager Lesley Spencer-Cooper. “We can already say that they are a joy to work with.”
The United Way Perth-Huron will kick-off its 2012 fundraising campaign on Monday, Sept. 17.
