Bantam Lightning team sweeps weekend set

HOWICK – The Saugeen-Maitland Lightning Bantam AA team took both home games in recent regular-season Lower Lakes Female Hockey League play.

On Sponsor Appreciation Day Nov. 12, the Lightning seemed to be suffering from post-tournament letdown with a slow start to the game against the Bluewater Hawks, but rebounded with a 3-1 victory.

The Hawks scored first, early in the second frame, but that would be the only goal they would muster against goaltender Rebecca Ropp from Milverton. The Lightning stormed back with a couple of power-play markers in the second period, taking advantage of untimely Bluewater penalties.

Jamie Simpson scored on a blast from the point with assists awarded to Maddie Duncan and Miranda Lantz. Lantz scored on a slapshot herself with only six seconds to play in the period, with helpers from Ciara Lark and Lexi Smith of Brussels.

Bluewater stormed out in the third looking for the equalizer, but the Lightning would not let up, scoring an insurance goal, with Smith stuffing in a rebound after a point shot from Lark.  ...Please read more in this weeks Listowel Banner
